A dedication was conducted at the University of Kentucky Childrens Hospital on May 23 to honor fund raising efforts by the wood industry in Kentucky. Members from Log a Load, hospital personnel and the press were all present to unveil the wooden mural in the entry way to the hospital and to announce the completion of the $250,000 heart research endowment funded by Log a Load. Coverage was provided by WKYT and other press in the Lexington area to see the recently completed mural and learn more about funding projects by the wood industry.
The 10x15 foot mural shows both wildlife and forest scenes including active forest management that truly is impressive to everyone that enters the Hospital. Log a Load can be proud of the wonderful impression this leaves on visitors to the hospital. Two additional murals have been completed and should be installed within the next month to raise the awareness of Log a Load even higher at the hospital.
The Log a Load for Kids Committee continues to work on fund raising for the Childrens Hospital at the University of Kentucky. Log a Load has just signed a new 5-year endowment to fund an additional $250,000 to work with teachers throughout the state to improve health and wellness education among children. In addition two new co-chairmen have been named to head up Log a Load in the state. Brandon Barker, Harold White Lumber (606) 784-7573 has been named the Eastern Kentucky Chairman and Mervin Strader with Strader Brothers Logging (270) 604-1741 has agreed to be the Western Chairman. These guys have stepped up to the plate to help Log a Load and the kids and invite members to give them a call for help with fund raising. The Association would like to especially thank outgoing Log a Load Chairman Grant Curry, Weyerhaeuser, for his leadership and hard work to make Log a Load one of the most prominent donors to the Childrens Hospital.
