26th Annual Kentucky Wood Expo

The Kentucky Wood Expo will celebrate the twenty-sixth anniversary of the show in Madisonville, Kentucky on Friday, September 19th and Saturday, September 20th. The 2008 show will take place at the Hopkins County Fairgrounds located west of the Pennyrile Parkway (Hwy 69) exit 42, about one mile on the right side of Hwy. 70. All outside exhibits will be on sod and all spaces are level. Smaller exhibits will be located inside two buildings on the grounds. The building are air conditioned and have concrete floors. Over 100 exhibitors will be present to display equipment and services that benefit the large wood industry located throughout the region. The annual Wood Expo, which the Tourism Council has ranked as one of the top 10 tourist events in Kentucky, is expected to draw 6,000-8,000 visitors from around the region. Attendees will be on hand to see the latest in wood processing equipment for the forest products industry and enjoy all types of family activities.
In addition to the over 100 exhibits and demonstrations of wood industry equipment and services, there will be lots of entertainment for each member of the family to enjoy. Activities will include lumberjack competitions, equipment contests, country music, crafts, and a Log A Load for Kids silent auction to benefit Kentucky's Childrens Hospital, not to mention food and good times for everyone.
Lumberjack demonstrations will take place in the arena on both days and will feature two of the top names in national timbersports competition. Also taking place will be local lumberjack competition to determine the best lumberjacks in the area. This years Lumberjack demonstrations and competition will include axe throwing, standing and overhead chop, springboard chop, crosscut sawing and the always popular modified chain saw races. Local logging operators will also get in on the action outside of the arena and compete in the log loading and skidder competitions.
On top of all the special activities, a door prize drawing will take place for industry attendees. The show offers quality entertainment for the entire family.
LOCATION AND COST
The Expo site is the Hopkins County Fairgrounds, located west of the Pennyrile Parkway (Hwy 69) exit 42, about one mile on the right side of Hwy 70. Advanced tickets can be purchased for only $3 by contacting the KFIA office through email at Michele@kfia.org or call (502) 695-3979 for more information. Entry cost at the gate is only $5 and $2 for children age 6-12 (children under 6 are free). The grounds will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday and 8:30 am to 4:30 pm on Saturday.
